The sky above Kent, the Garden of England, was the frontline of what was described by Winston Churchill as the Battle of Britain, one of the most important battles in this island's history. "The Few" were rightly celebrated as the heroes of this battle but it was "The Many" that suffered the consequences.

On Saturday 7th September 1940, the Luftwaffe turned its attention away from the RAF fighter stations it had tried so hard to destroy that summer and dealt the first of many devastating blows on to the City of London.

70 years later on Saturday 4th September 2010 National Trust Chartwell, home of Sir Winston Churchill, will stage one of the most important events of this year's 70th anniversary commemorations. The Central Band of the Royal Air Force will take centre stage for a twilight concert in support of the Royal Air Forces Association that will re-live and commemorate those momentous events of the summer of 1940. The band will be supported by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, archive film, special effects and narration.
