For 2012, Dawlish Air Show has changed its format from being one day in August, to a two day event in June, during half term week across the country, providing Dawlish with a fitting end to the Town's Diamond Jubilee Celebrations.
As well as the annual Air Show spectacular, this year we are proud to host Armed Forces Day on Thursday, 7th June. A day of family fun and entertainment centred on Dawlish's main Lawn, come and help us celebrate the Armed Forces.
In a change from the show's usual August slot, the date of Dawlish Air Show 2012 has now been finalised and the event is scheduled to take place on Friday, June 8th. The seaside town of Dawlish is a premier resort on the south coast of Devon and, with its glorious bay and a dramatic coastline, it's the perfect setting for the spectacle that is, "Dawlish Air Show". Each year this event attracts over 80,000 people to watch an array of aircraft take to the sky at this award winning air show.
Although hampered by the weather during 2011, it was a privilege to welcome The Blades' aerobatic team, which drew gasps from the crowd as they completed heart stopping manoeuvres in their Extra 300 aircraft, as well as the SWIP Team, which left the crowd cheering as they left a perfect heart in the Dawlish sky with their on-board smoke system. Support from the Royal Air Force was found not to be lacking either. Dawlish favourites the Tutor, Tucano, Hawk, King Air and Tornado were greeted with rapturous applause, whilst the Sea King Search and Rescue gave the crowd a 'close up and personal' as it landed on the beach near Boat Cove to carry out a real life rescue operation.
In 2009 we were honoured to welcome the Avro Vulcan, restored to flight, after a multi-million pound fund-raising campaign, and for this reason known fondly as the 'people's aeroplane', she is the only airworthy Vulcan in existence. She was joined in the air at Dawlish by the world famous Red Arrows, in what most commentators described as the highlight of the 2009 UK air show scene! It was a truly breathtaking and memorable sight. The Red Arrows, who are regulars at Dawlish, love flying here due to the reception received from the crowd and the amazing location.
As well as the thrilling air displays this event also offers events and attractions on the ground including static helicopters located at Dawlish Warren and family fun on the Lawn in Dawlish including sideshows, stalls, and ground displays offering something for everyone. Entertainment continues into the night with live music and dance.
It offers an amazing stage for companies to showcase themselves in front of a captive audience in excess of 80,000 people. The crowd is made up from families visiting the area enjoying their annual holiday, local residents and day trippers from all over the West Country and beyond. The show has gained an international reputation and even won an award from the European Air Show Council. As a result aviation enthusiasts travel from all over the UK and Europe to sample the Dawlish experience. So any company or individual considering helping the event with sponsorship of any kind can guarantee maximum publicity coverage to a large cross section of demographic groups.
